Insufficient Funds

Program Overview

Returned checks are an expensive and time consuming problem for the merchants, businesses and law enforcement agencies in this community. In an effort to combat this problem, the County Attorney has established the Insufficient Funds Program to assist local merchants with bad check losses. The goal of the Insufficient Funds Program is to obtain full restitution for the victim without adding to the financial burden of the criminal justice system.

Program for Check Writers

Check writers that have written a bad check are given an opportunity to make full payment back to the business by participating in the Insufficient Funds Program offered through the Pretrial Diversion Office. More information on how to make payments back to the business once the check writer has been contacted by the Pretrial Diversion Office are located on the Insufficient Funds Program – Check Writers page.

Program for Businesses

Businesses in Seward County are encouraged to contact the Pretrial Diversion Office if they are in possession of a check identified as having insufficient funds. The Pretrial Diversion Office will attempt to collect the money owed on the check and forward it back to the business. More information on how to submit all of the necessary documentation is available on the Insufficient Funds Program – Businesses page.
